The Tribeca Film Festival is (technically) accepting submissions via Snapchat

Tribeca Snapchat Shorts for media

To our surprise, the Tribeca Film Festival -- the institution cofounded by Robert De Niro -- has put out a call for "the best Snapchat Stories across the U.S."

"Best," we'll assume, is a relative term.

The organization says it's teamed up with Snapchat to encourage "creativity, humor, and imagination through Snapchat with the goal of spotlighting the next generation of mobile storytellers." The guidelines for submissions are available here, but here's a shortlist: must use Snapchat, must live in U.S., must be over the 18, and must be judged by DJ Khaled. The Festival is accepting submissions between February 27 and March 8.

The Festival says the 10 winning clips "will be announced timed to the 15th annual Tribeca Film Festival" and "will be highlighted at the Festival and may be featured on a special Snapchat Discover channel." So the winners won't receive the same billing as the real films -- that's only fair -- but they'll still get heaps more attention than the average snap.

We've reached out to the Festival to find out if this is a sponsorship arrangement or simply a partnership.
