Product Hunt is launching a podcast channel

Product Hunt headquarters in San Francisco.

Product discussion board site Product Hunt is opening up a new daily channel for discovering podcasts tomorrow morning at 7 a.m. Pacific.

Product Hunt has taken off among early-adopter types and those looking for inspiration or the next big thing. Users can upvote and comment on products in the style of Reddit or Hacker News, and a live channel brings creators to the site at scheduled times, not unlike Reddit’s Ask Me Anything (AMA) sessions.

Earlier this year, Product Hunt branched out of pure tech products by introducing discussion boards for games and books. Now the startup is going a little further, to keep up with the latest in podcasting, which was said to be reaching a golden age (remember “Serial?”) just a few months ago.

“Similar to other categories, the community will be able to post new episodes (not just shows), listen to them directly from the site, create collections of their favorite shows, and discuss them with other fans+the podcast hosts themselves,” Product Hunt cofounder and chief executive Ryan Hoover told VentureBeat in an email. Hoover mentioned the news today on “This Week in Startups” with Jason Calacanis.

The podcast has long been a well liked format for Product Hunt, which released the first episode of its own weekly show, Product Hunt Radio, back in April 2014. This past April I included the show in my article “10 tech podcasts you should listen to now.”

San Francisco-based Product Hunt raised $6.1 million in funding last year.
